Wedding Videographer in Chesterfield — Derbyshire's Crooked Spire Town

Chesterfield is one of Derbyshire's best-kept wedding secrets. Famous for its Crooked Spire, surrounded by the Peak District, and home to some genuinely beautiful venues, it's a town that couples are only just beginning to discover. As a wedding videographer based in Cleethorpes, Chesterfield is a regular destination for me — about 90 minutes down the M1 — and it's one I always enjoy. The combination of historic character, rural beauty, and warm northern hospitality makes for wedding films that feel genuine and beautiful.

Why Chesterfield is brilliant for weddings

Chesterfield sits right on the edge of the Peak District — the first taste of dramatic Derbyshire countryside as you head west from Sheffield. For couples who want a wedding with real rural character without the premium prices of the Lakes or the Cotswolds, Chesterfield and the surrounding area is ideal.

The town itself has genuine character. The Crooked Spire of St Mary and All Saints is one of the most distinctive landmarks in England and makes a spectacular backdrop for wedding photography and film. Beyond the town, the countryside rolls into the Peak District — big skies, dry stone walls, and that particular Derbyshire light that makes everything look timeless.

Chesterfield area wedding venues

Here are the Chesterfield and north Derbyshire venues I've filmed at or have firmly on my wish list:

Ringwood Hall Hotel

A beautiful Victorian mansion set in 29 acres of parkland and gardens just outside Chesterfield. Ringwood Hall is one of the most complete wedding venues in Derbyshire — ceremony rooms, reception suites, gardens, and accommodation all in one location. The Victorian architecture provides beautiful natural framing for ceremony shots, the gardens are stunning for portraits, and the ballroom is spacious and elegant for evening celebrations.

Peak Edge Hotel

A contemporary boutique hotel on the edge of the Peak District near Chesterfield. Peak Edge has a completely different feel from Ringwood — modern, stylish, and designed with weddings in mind from the ground up. The glass-fronted function suite overlooks the Derbyshire countryside, providing stunning natural light and beautiful views. For couples who want modern elegance with rural surroundings, this is one of the best choices in the area.

Casa Hotel

A stylish boutique hotel just outside Chesterfield with a Mediterranean-inspired design and a reputation for exceptional food. Casa is smaller and more intimate than some venues, which makes it perfect for couples who want a relaxed, personal celebration. The contemporary interiors film beautifully with the right lighting approach, and the terrace and gardens provide outdoor options in summer.

Peak District venues near Chesterfield

Beyond Chesterfield itself, the Peak District offers extraordinary wedding venues within easy reach. From converted barns to country inns to stately homes, the Derbyshire Peak District provides rural character that's hard to match. Bakewell, Matlock, and the Hope Valley are all within 30 minutes of Chesterfield and offer completely different wedding experiences — rugged, romantic, and genuinely atmospheric.

Filming style in Chesterfield

My approach in Chesterfield is the same documentary style I use everywhere: present, unobtrusive, and focused on the real moments that make your day yours. The Derbyshire countryside means I can work with natural light for most of the day, and the relaxed pace of Chesterfield weddings means couples are genuinely enjoying themselves rather than performing for a schedule.

The Peak District light is genuinely special — the elevation, the clean air, and the big skies mean golden hour here is often spectacular. Even on overcast days, the soft, diffused light is perfect for portraits. I always make sure to carve out time for outdoor shots when the light is right, whether that's in the grounds of Ringwood Hall, the terrace at Casa, or the Derbyshire lanes just outside town.

The Crooked Spire

If you're getting married at St Mary and All Saints — or even just want to use the church as a backdrop for portraits — the Crooked Spire is genuinely iconic. The twisted tower, the Gothic architecture, and the historic churchyard create footage that feels timeless and rooted in place. Even if your ceremony is elsewhere, a few shots with the Spire in the background anchor your film in Chesterfield and give it a sense of local character that's increasingly rare.

Investment

One clear package for all weddings — Chesterfield and Derbyshire included. No travel fees for venues within two hours of my Cleethorpes base. No tiers, no hidden costs, no upselling. Just one filmmaker and a film that captures your day as it really was.
