Why Newark is perfect for a wedding
Newark has something most wedding destinations don't — genuine character. The town's Georgian architecture, the River Trent running through it, and the proximity to stunning countryside venues make it a location that feels special without being overdone. Guests travelling from the north, south, or Midlands will find Newark surprisingly accessible via the A1 and A46.
For couples who want a wedding that feels rooted in place rather than imported from Pinterest, Newark delivers. The venues here range from historic halls to contemporary barn conversions, and the wedding suppliers I've worked with in the area are some of the most professional in the East Midlands.
Newark wedding venues I love filming at
Here are some of the Newark area venues I've filmed at — or have firmly on my wish list — and what makes each one special from a filmmaker's perspective:
Kelham Hall
A Victorian Gothic masterpiece surrounded by parkland near Newark. Kelham Hall is the kind of venue that makes a filmmaker's job easy — every angle is dramatic, every room has texture, and the grounds provide endless options for portraits and drone footage. The stained glass alone produces extraordinary light during ceremonies. I've filmed here and it's genuinely one of the most visually impressive venues in the East Midlands.
Norwood Park
A stunning Georgian country house set in 300 acres of parkland near Southwell, just outside Newark. The deer park is magnificent for drone footage, and the grand interior rooms have a warmth that photographs beautifully. The staircase is a videographer's dream for bridal entrance shots. Multiple spaces mean I can capture real variety throughout your day.
The Pumping House
An industrial-chic converted Victorian pumping station near Ollerton. Exposed brick, dramatic steel beams, and a contemporary design sensibility make this one of the most distinctive venues near Newark. The contrast between the industrial architecture and the warmth of a wedding day creates footage that feels genuinely cinematic.
Cockcliffe Country House
A boutique country house venue with a relaxed, intimate feel near Calverton. The gardens are beautiful for outdoor ceremonies, and the interior has a warmth that suits couples who want something elegant but not overwhelming. Great natural light throughout.
Rufford Abbey
Just north of Newark, Rufford Abbey is a medieval abbey converted into a country house, set in beautiful parkland. The ruins and the formal gardens provide completely different backdrops within minutes of each other. Historic, romantic, and visually stunning on film.
What Newark couples get from me
When you hire me for your Newark wedding, you're getting someone who knows the area, knows the venues, and knows how to work with the particular light and spaces each one offers. I'm based in Cleethorpes — about 90 minutes from Newark — and I cover Nottinghamshire regularly with no travel fees.
My approach is documentary: I capture what actually happens, not what I stage. Your day unfolds naturally, and my job is to be present for the moments that matter — the quiet ones as much as the big ones. The result is a film that feels like your day, not a performance of it.
Investment
I offer one clear package for all weddings — Newark included. No tiers, no hidden extras, no awkward upselling. Just one filmmaker, one approach, and a film that captures your day as it really was.
