Why York is perfect for weddings
Let's be honest — York basically sells itself. You've got centuries of history around every corner, gorgeous light bouncing off the Minster, and a city centre that photographs and films beautifully from any angle. But what really makes York special for weddings is the variety. Country houses five minutes from the city walls, riverside venues with stunning reflections, converted barns in rolling countryside just beyond the ring road.
And the thing about York weddings? The couples tend to be relaxed. Maybe it's the city's laid-back energy, maybe it's the good pubs the night before — either way, relaxed couples make for the most beautiful, natural wedding films. That's my sweet spot.
Wedding venues in York
York is absolutely stacked with incredible wedding venues, and I've been lucky enough to film at many of them over the years. Here are some of the standouts I'd recommend:
Middlethorpe Hall
A stunning William III country house on the edge of the city. The grounds are immaculate, the interiors drip with period elegance, and the light in the main rooms is a videographer's dream. If you want classic grandeur without the stuffiness, Middlethorpe delivers every time.
Grays Court
Tucked behind the Minster in one of the oldest occupied houses in England, Grays Court is pure romance. The gallery with its oak beams, the walled garden — it's intimate and full of character. Filming here feels like stepping back in time, and the results are always breathtaking.
The Hospitium
Set in Museum Gardens with the ruins of St Mary's Abbey as your backdrop, The Hospitium is genuinely one of the most cinematic wedding venues I've ever filmed at. Medieval stone, riverside gardens, and York Minster peeking over the trees. It doesn't get much better than that.
Hornington Manor
Just outside the city, Hornington Manor offers a gorgeous barn conversion with countryside views that go on forever. It's relaxed, stylish, and incredibly photogenic. The outdoor ceremony space is particularly lovely on a summer evening.
What to expect from Jacob White Films
After nine years of filming weddings, I've learned that the best moments happen when nobody's performing. My style is documentary — I'm there, I'm present, but I'm not directing your day. No awkward posing, no 'can you do that again for the camera.' Just your actual wedding, captured beautifully.
- Unobtrusive, documentary-style filming from start to finish
- Cinematic quality that captures genuine emotion
- Full coverage from morning preparations to the last dance
- Drone footage where venues and weather allow
- Quick turnaround — you won't be waiting months for your film
York wedding videography packages
I keep things simple with three packages. No hidden extras, no confusing add-ons — just honest pricing for quality wedding films:
- Essentials — £795: Core coverage from preparations through to first dance. Beautiful, cinematic memories without the extras
- Moments — £1,095: Extended coverage with speeches, detailed preparation filming, and additional edited content
- Signature — £1,395: The full experience — drone footage, comprehensive morning-to-evening coverage, and longer edits
Every package includes a highlight film and full ceremony edit. I'm always happy to chat through what works best for your day — no two weddings are the same, and your package shouldn't be either.
