My experience filming destination weddings
I recently had the privilege of filming a beautiful wedding in Sorrento, Italy. Watching a couple exchange vows with the Mediterranean sparkling behind them, surrounded by lemon groves and ancient architecture — it reminded me why I fell in love with wedding videography in the first place. Every frame felt like a painting.
Filming abroad brings unique creative opportunities. The golden Italian light, the dramatic landscapes, the relaxed pace of a wedding week rather than a single day — all of this translates into films with a different, almost cinematic quality. Your guests are on holiday mode, everyone's more relaxed, and the whole celebration has a sense of adventure.
Why hire a UK-based videographer who travels?
You might wonder why you wouldn't just hire a local videographer at your destination. There are a few reasons couples choose to bring me along:
- We can meet in person beforehand — building trust and understanding your vision
- Clear communication without language barriers during planning and on the day
- Consistent quality you can verify from UK-based reviews and full wedding films
- I understand British humour, family dynamics, and wedding traditions
- One less thing to coordinate remotely — I handle my own logistics
- Your edit is delivered to UK standards and timelines
Many couples find real peace of mind knowing their videographer is someone they've met, whose work they've seen at UK weddings, and who they can communicate with easily throughout the process.
What's included for destination weddings
When you book me for a destination wedding, you get the same comprehensive coverage as my UK weddings, with some additional considerations built in:
- Full day coverage from preparations to first dance (or beyond)
- Cinematic highlight film capturing the essence of your day
- Complete ceremony edit so you never forget a word
- Documentary approach — no awkward posing, just genuine moments
- Drone footage where local regulations permit (I check in advance)
- All my own equipment, plus backup cameras and audio gear
- Pre-wedding consultation to plan the day's filming schedule
The logistics I handle
Planning a wedding abroad is complex enough without worrying about your suppliers' travel arrangements. Here's what I take care of:
- All travel bookings and arrangements
- Equipment transported safely with professional cases
- Backup gear for every critical piece of kit (cameras, audio, batteries)
- Research on local filming permissions and drone regulations
- Scouting the venue virtually beforehand via photos and video calls
- Coordination with your photographer and other suppliers on the day
I've learned that destination weddings require extra preparation. I'll never arrive somewhere unfamiliar without doing my homework — understanding the venue layout, the light at different times, and having backup plans for weather or logistics.
Destination wedding packages
My standard wedding videography packages apply to destination weddings:
- Essentials — £795: Core coverage from preparations through first dance
- Moments — £1,095: Extended coverage including speeches and detailed preparations
- Signature — £1,395: Comprehensive documentation with drone footage and extended edits
For destination weddings, travel costs are added separately. This typically includes return flights, accommodation for the wedding night (and the night before if needed for preparation coverage), and any ground transport. I always provide a clear, itemised quote before you commit — no surprises.
For European destinations, travel costs usually add between £300-600 depending on location and timing. Further afield, we'll work out the specifics together.
Popular destination wedding locations
I'm happy to travel anywhere your love story takes you, but some destinations are particularly popular with UK couples:
- Italy — Tuscany, Amalfi Coast, Lake Como, Sorrento, Rome, Venice
- Spain — Mallorca, Marbella, Barcelona, Ibiza
- Greece — Santorini, Mykonos, Crete, Rhodes
- France — Provence, Paris, French Riviera, Bordeaux
- Portugal — Algarve, Lisbon, Porto
- Croatia — Dubrovnik, Split, Hvar
Each destination offers something unique. The rolling hills of Tuscany, the white-washed charm of Santorini, the glamour of the Côte d'Azur — I love the creative challenge of capturing your celebration in a setting that's completely different from what I might film at home.
