Why Lincolnshire Is Worth a Closer Look
Lincolnshire has two distinct characters: the urban sophistication of Lincoln itself, and the deep countryside that stretches from the Wolds in the north to the Fenland in the south. Both have their own wedding venue personality, and both photograph beautifully for different reasons.
The cathedral city of Lincoln is the obvious highlight — the combination of the cathedral, the castle, and the historic Bailgate area creates one of the most atmospheric wedding settings in the East Midlands. But Lincolnshire's real wedding strength is the quality of its country venues at prices that haven't been inflated by wedding magazine hype.
Best Wedding Venues in Lincolnshire
Lincoln Cathedral and the Bailgate — City Wedding at Its Best
Lincoln Cathedral is one of the most dramatic wedding settings in England — and unlike York Minster or Westminster, it's accessible. The cathedral hosts a limited number of weddings each year, which makes it exclusive. The adjacent St. Mary’s Guildhall and the Old School House nearby offer reception spaces that match the cathedral's gravitas. For couples who want a serious setting, this is it.
The Wolds — Countryside with Drama
The Lincolnshire Wolds are an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty — rolling chalk hills, big skies, and a sense of space that the flatter parts of the county can't match. The villages of Louth, Horncastle, and the surrounding area have converted barns, manor houses, and private estates that take full advantage of the landscape. The light in the Wolds in the late afternoon is extraordinary.
Sleaford and the River — South Lincolnshire
Sleaford is an underrated market town that sits on the River Sleme — navigable by boat, which makes for a unique arrival option. The Sleaford area has a cluster of venues that serve south Lincolnshire and the Cambridgeshire border. For couples who want countryside without being in the middle of nowhere, this is a practical and attractive option.
The Fens — Flat, Open, and Unique
The Fenland in southern Lincolnshire is one of the most unusual wedding settings in England — flat, vast, the sky dominates everything, and the light is like nothing else. Some venues have taken full advantage of this stark landscape, creating modern barn-style celebrations that feel both rural and contemporary. It's not for everyone — but for couples who grew up here, it feels like home.
What Lincolnshire Couples Pay for Wedding Videography
Lincolnshire wedding videographers charge a wide range — from around £1,000 for basic coverage to £3,000+ for full cinematic packages. The spread reflects variation in experience, equipment, and what exactly is included. Most couples in the county spend between £1,400 and £2,200 on professional videography.
My own pricing reflects the Lincolnshire market — I'm based in Cleethorpes, which is convenient for North Lincolnshire and the Wolds. I don't charge travel fees within Lincolnshire. I limit myself to 20 bookings per year.
When to Book Your Lincolnshire Wedding Videographer
Lincoln Cathedral weddings need to be booked 18-24 months in advance — the cathedral is popular and the booking process is competitive. The country venues in the Wolds typically book 12-18 months out for summer dates. Sleaford and Fenland venues have slightly more availability — 9-12 months for popular dates.
The best light for videography in Lincolnshire is late April through June and September through October. August can be beautiful but the long days reduce the golden hour window and the venues are at their busiest. Winter weddings in Lincoln — particularly in the cathedral — are atmospheric but need to be timed around daylight hours.
